FAMILY FUN!

Another busy week has passed by!  We have been exploring our unit on Family and learning so much about each other!  It has been fun watching the students share their Family Houses with their classmates. They have been so excited to introduce their classmates to their Mothers, Fathers, Sisters, Brothers, Grandparents and Pets.  All of the houses are hung up on our classroom bulletin board and throughout the day, there are always a number of students gathered around looking at the pictures and talking to each other. Thank you to everyone for the great effort you put in to help your child complete this project. The children truly love the results!

Can You Join Us?

Speaking of family fun...we hope you are able to join us in our classroom on November 21 from 12:15-1:15. During this hour, we will be reading a gingerbread story together and then you and your child will be decorating a gingerbread cookie!  If time allows, we will also be doing a little singing and dancing!

Did you hear there is a new restaurant open in our classroom? It's a great place for family dining!!

The children have been learning about the different roles people play in a restaurant. This Dramatic Play center has incorporated turn taking, writing to convey information, role playing, counting, and interacting with peers.

Reading the menu!

Floor puzzles provide a great opportunity to practice team work!

We have also recently introduced board games to our center time.

Playing board games is a great way to spend family time.  Games can touch upon so many academic skills such as:

  • number and shape recognition, grouping, and counting
  • letter recognition and reading
  • visual perception and color recognition
  • eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity
  • turn taking and communication
  • ************************************************

Some other activities included "Feed the Baby" where students used their fine motor skills to pick up "food" with giant tweezers and fed it to the babies! This activity helped strengthen hand muscles which will in turn benefit hand writing skills.

Finally, we did a little measuring with our "Giant Feet" measuring tools. We will be exploring measurement throughout the school year, but these "feet" were a fun introduction!

We wish all of our families a Happy Thanksgiving and a restful holiday break!

    Welcome to November!
    .

We wrapped up our Farm unit with a fun Animal Sound game with Miss Diane!

The game was almost as fun as our FRIDAY DANCE PARTY! There was so much moving and grooving that it was tough to catch pictures! :) SO FUN!!

This week, we practiced writing our names in shaving cream. There were many smiling, proud faces from a job well done!

As the month ended, we analyzed the data we collected on our October Weather Graph. It was a very sunny month!  We wonder what kind of weather we will have in November...stay tuned!

Reading, reading and more reading :)

The weather is finally getting cooler! Please label all clothing items (hats, mittens, coats, sweatshirts, etc.) to prevent them from being lost.
