We are still having a great time DOWN ON THE FARM!
Take a look at how we have been exploring!

We made prints of some of the farmer's crops...we used peppers, acorn squash, zucchini, apples, celery and potatoes as our painting tools. While painting, the students noticed that some of the fruits and vegetables had seeds inside and also explored the different textures, too. I hope you were able to see the results hung up around our classroom during Curriculum Night!

We also spent some time measuring the height of our pumpkin.  Using unifix cubes, the students estimated how many cubes they would need to get to the top of the pumpkin. We had a large range of guesses...from 4 cubes all the way to 100 cubes!  We put our estimates to the test and determined if they were "TOO LONG", "TOO SHORT" or "EQUAL"

And since we were exploring pumpkins, next we made predictions about whether a pumpkin would sink or float if we dropped it in water. What's your prediction? These were our guesses...
        SURPRISE! IT FLOATS!

We have been busy creating art, working in the Farmer's Market (Dramatic Play), and learning about all the great things that happen on a farm.

WOW!!!  It's already October!!  Take a peek at what we have been up to for the past two weeks..
As cough and cold season approaches, it was a great time for Nurse Mary to visit our classroom to talk to us about germs. She showed us a cool trick that taught us how germs run away from soap. We also learned all the important steps of hand washing. Thanks for visiting Nurse Mary!

We have been enjoying the beautiful weather and have spent time investigating in the garden.
All of the plants have grown so tall!
We have discovered that we can use all five of our senses in the garden.  Tasting just might be the best part!

It was exciting to shuck the corn we picked...there were so many layers to peel!

 We painted with textured paint!
We used our sense of hearing to try to identify the items hidden inside an egg.

Do you see what I see? We explored our sense of sight with binoculars.

We are excited to start our new Farm Unit!  We will be exploring who lives on a farm, what happens on a farm, and crops that are grown on a farm. We will also be exploring weighing and measuring.

How many chickens should we feed? 1...2....3?

We have so much more to explore in our farm theme!  If your family visits a local farm, feel free to share any pictures or stories from your visit.  The Fall season is a great time to get outside and use your five sense to explore the environment.
Enjoy your weekend!!
We'll see you next week for another fun filled week!!
